A former Property Appraiser in Wakulla County who was suspended from office last year after he was found to have paid himself over 176 thousand dollars more than his allowed salary is now facing state ethics allegations.

Brad Harvey was suspended from office last April after workers in his office alerted authorities that Harvey made almost $27,000 in fraudulent charges on his government-issued credit card and paid himself over 176 thousand dollars more than his allowed salary.

He was charged with with organized scheme to defraud more than $50,000 and organized scheme to defraud $20,000 or more.

He was arrested and then suspended by Governor Ron DeSantis.

Last week Harvey's case was heard by the the Florida Commission on Ethics, where they found probable cause on four allegations including that he misused his position to receive unauthorized compensation in excess of his statutorily prescribed salary.

The Commission also found probable cause to believe Mr. Harvey misused the Property Appraiser Office's credit card to make personal purchases.

Probable cause also was found on two additional allegations related to under-reporting of his income in 2017 and 2018.

The ethics commission said a finding of probable cause is not a determination that a violation has occurred.

That determination is made only after a full evidentiary hearing on the allegations.
