To celebrate Florida Arbor Day, the Florida Forest Service will be giving away a variety of trees on Friday at two locations in Gulf County.
A tree giveaway will begin at noon Central time at Rich’s IGA in Wewahitchka.
A second giveaway is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Time at the Piggly Wiggly in Port St. Joe.
Trees to choose from at both events include live oak, red maple, bald cypress, Shumard oak, sweet bay magnolia and sweet gum.
There is a one-tree-per-person limit for the first hour, but all remaining trees will be distributed evenly to those who stay after that.
While Arbor Day is celebrated nationally in April, many states recognize a state Arbor Day to coincide with the local tree planting season.
In Florida, Arbor Day is observed on the third Friday of January.
