Franklin County and the Eastpoint Civic Association are considering creating an overlay district for the Eastpoint commercial corridor along Highway 98.
An Overlay district is a set of rules to guide development in the commercial district which reaches from 2nd street to the Apalachicola bridge causeway.
The rules would govern what types of developments would be allowed in the commercial district.
The issue has been discussed by the County Planning and Zoning board, where they discussed density, water access, and not rezoning commercial property in that area to residential.
The Eastpoint Civic Association is currently working on a feasibility study which they expect to be complete by the end of September.
Once that is complete the county may hold a workshop on the issue to discuss the issue further.
