The Florida Highway Patrol is urging ATV riders to stay off paved roads and to always wear a helmet.
There were two ATV accidents over the weekend, one in Jackson County which included serious injuries and one in Calhoun County, which included a fatality.
In both cases the ATV was being driven on a paved road and the driver was not wearing a helmet.
Over the last 5 years, ATV crashes have increased by 23%.
In 2021, there were 669 All-Terrain Vehicle crashes in Florida, resulting in 32 fatalities.
Of the 32 fatalities, only 1 was reported as wearing a helmet.
95% of people involved in ATV crashes in 2021 were reported as not wearing a helmet.
The Highway patrol recommends that you never ride at ATV on paved roads.
Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) are designed to be operated off the highway.
Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.
