16 people were sentenced in federal court on Friday, concluding the prosecution of a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking organization operating primarily within Franklin and Gulf Counties.
In November 2018, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office began a joint investigation into methamphetamine-trafficking in the Franklin County area.
The investigation uncovered an organization that was obtaining up to 20–25 kilograms of methamphetamine per week from Atlanta, Georgia, and reselling it in North Florida, along with a web of methamphetamine dealers buying and selling methamphetamine in Franklin and Gulf Counties.
A total of 16 defendants were charged in a series of separate drug-trafficking indictments.
The convicted include 5 residents of Port St. Joe, 5 residents from Apalachicola, and 4 residents of Eastpoint with sentences ranging from 3 months to 30 years.
This case resulted from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
