Franklin County is moving forward on a plan to lease and enhance Sylvester Williams Park in Apalachicola.
The county agreed this month to do a boundary survey of the 6-acre park, which will allow the city to lease the park to the county for the next 40 years.
The Sylvester Williams Park is in the Hill District of Apalachicola, a few blocks away from Franklin Square.
It contains a basketball court, baseball field, soccer field as well as a playground area.
Once the lease is complete, the county will be able to seek grants to upgrade the park.
Some of the plans at this time are to demolish some old buildings and sheds, including the old concession stand.
They would also remove some of the old and damaged fencing from the site and add a streetlight to the entrance.
Once the county can get grant money, they plan to replace the fencing around the baseball field, refurbish the aging playground equipment, and improve the parking area at the park.
They also plan to rework the soccer field, upgrade the baseball field and add a new basketball court that could also be used for pickleball.
