The Franklin County commission now has the money it needs to renovate the old St. George Island Restrooms and some other areas at lighthouse park.
The county requested 70 thousand dollars from the Franklin County Tourist Development council to do the work, and learned last week that the request was approved.
Even though Franklin County recently completed work on a new restroom facility at lighthouse park, the commission feels that because of the ever-growing number of people who visit our area, it would be a good idea to have both restroom facilities available to the public.
The TDC money will allow the county to renovate the old restrooms by replacing the floor tiles and wall coverings which have been damaged from water damage.
They will also have to repair the copper plumbing, and install new fixtures, and run lines for additional outdoor showers.
The project will also include adding a handicapped Accessible Picnic Pavilion which would include a concrete surface, metal roof and new ADA accessible picnic tables.
