FWC officers busted fishermen in two separate cases earlier this month for electro-fishing in Gulf and Franklin Counties

FWC officers busted fishermen in two separate cases earlier this month for electro-fishing in Gulf and Franklin Counties.

Electro-fishing is when a shocking device is used to stun the fish so they can be lifted out of the water with a dip net.

It is illegal in Florida.

In the Franklin County case, FWC officers found the fishermen returning to the Abercrombie boat ramp where they conducted a resource inspection revealing a large number of flathead catfish on the deck and in coolers.

Officers found several indicators the fish were not harvested using rod and reel and discovered a device capable of producing electrical shock in a stern compartment.

The fishermen were cited for harvesting freshwater fish using an illegal method.

The Gulf County case happened on the Chipola River in Douglas Slough.

During a resource and boating safety inspection, officers noticed the two fishermen trying to hide something.

After further inspection, officers discovered a device on board capable of producing electric current sufficient to stun or shock freshwater fish.

Those fishermen were cited for possession of a device capable of producing electrical shock on the waters of the state.
