Two people were killed late Saturday night while crossing Highway 98 in Lanark Village

Two people were killed late Saturday night while crossing Highway 98 in Lanark Village.

The accident happened just after 10 o’clock at the intersection of Highway 98 and Arizona Street on the western end on Lanark Village.

According to the Florida Highway patrol, a 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both of Tallahassee, were crossing the Highway when they walked into the path of a pickup truck driven by a 25-year-old woman from Crawfordville.

The truck was heading southwest and hit both pedestrians.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the woman was taken to Weems Memorial Hospital in Apalachicola where she was pronounced deceased on arrival.

After the collision the truck came to a final rest on US Highway 98 facing south west, blocking the south west travel lane – the driver suffered only minor injuries.

The Florida Highway patrol was assisted at the scene by The Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Carrabelle Police Department, Carrabelle Fire Department, and Franklin County EMS.

Traffic was stopped in both directions and redirected through the forest on Crooked River Road while first responders worked at the accident scene.
