USACE Begins Environmental Review of Potential Apalachicola River Dredging
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District, has begun the process of preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate the potential resumption of navigational dredging operations in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River Basin.
Apalachicola Riverkeeper opposes the resumption of navigational dredging on the Apalachicola River and believes the focus should be on understanding and addressing the impacts that have already occurred within the river system.
On June 25, 2026, USACE held a public meeting at the Lake Seminole Resource Management Office. Apalachicola Riverkeeper staff and members attended to share concerns and learn more about the process. Following these public meetings, there is an opportunity for the public to submit comments. All comments received will be compiled and included as part of the Environmental Impact Statement review process.
Your voice matters. Apalachicola Riverkeeper members are encouraged to submit public comments and help ensure the health and future of the Apalachicola River remains part of this important conversation.
