County considers plans for old school administration building

County officials are beginning their plans on what to do with the old school administration building in Apalachicola. The county took possession of the building earlier this year after the school district moved its business offices to Brown Elementary School in Eastpoint. The county needs the additional space for offices that are currently housed at the courthouse but may not be for much longer. The circuit court system is pressuring the county to use the courthouse for primarily court related functions, which means offices like the tax collector and the property appraiser may have to move. The county will likely also move the supervisor of elections office from its current location at the old Progress Energy building so they can stop paying rent for that building. Final plans have not yet been made, but county officials say they are ready to sit down and make a plan. They will likely hold a workshop on the issue later this summer so they can sit down with all of the county offices that may have to move and decide what works best for everyone.
