Franklin County commissioners received a plaque on Tuesday for the role the county played during this years Emerald Warrior training.
Exercise Emerald Warrior is a U.S. Special Operations Command-sponsored mission rehearsal exercise involving soldiers from various parts of the armed services. The exercise was held in early March in multiple states and training sites throughout the southeast including Tate’s Hell in Franklin County.
The plaque was given to the county for its role in the fight on terrorism.
The plaque was presented by Franklin County sheriff Skip Shiver who said the soldiers said the training in Franklin County was some of the best and toughest training they’ve ever had.
This is the second time Franklin County has served as a training ground for Exercise Emerald Warrior – the last time was about 5 years ago. County Commission chairman Smokey Parrish said the training put about 300 thousand dollars into the local economy because soldiers ate at local restaurants and stayed in local hotels and also rented the Apalachicola airport for about a week.
