Freshwater fishing in Florida is free this weekend

This weekend would be a good time to gas up the truck, load up the kids and go fishing. And this weekend you won’t even need a license to fish in freshwater in Florida.

The Florida Legislature and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission set aside the first weekend of April for residents and visitors to enjoy freshwater fishing without having to worry about buying a fishing license.

Free fishing weekend offers an opportunity for adults who haven’t caught a fish in a while to get reacquainted with angling, and do it in some of the waters that have yielded more than 700 world-record fish catches. It’s also a good time to introduce somebody new to fishing like your children or grandchildren.

And if you decide you like it enough to buy a fishing license – fishing licenses are available at county tax collectors’ offices, license agents, online at MyFWC.com or over the phone at 1-888-FISH FLORIDA.
