Tax Day is Thursday - Don't expect help from the Post Office

Thursday is the deadline for taxpayers to file their taxes, and post offices are reminding people that those envelopes have to be in by the end of the business day or they won’t be postmarked until Friday. Post Offices in North Florida will observe normal hours on Tax Day, Thursday, April 15th. In Franklin County post offices close at 4:30 which means that mail deposited after that will not be postmarked until the following day.

The postal service is also reminding taxpayers to follow some simple steps to make sure your tax return is not “returned to sender”.

Double check the mailing address and make sure its legible, correct, and complete and make sure you envelope has sufficient postage. Envelopes greater than 61/8 inches high and containing more than four standard-weight, letter-sized pages will require more than one stamp.

No tax agency, state or federal, will accept letters postage-due. Returns without postage or with insufficient postage will be returned to sender and may be considered late by the taxing agency.
