Gulf County and the Gulf County Tourist Development Council are continuing to closely monitor the off-shore oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We are meeting throughout each day with local, state and federal officials and will continue to advise our tourism industry partners, local businesses and area visitors on any new developments. While we are taking every precaution possible to minimize any potential impact. Fact is - We have not been affected! Our beaches and waters are open! Come get some sun, catch some fish and maybe even volunteer for beach clean-up day this Saturday (link below).

Is the oil spill going to affect Gulf County beaches?
The oil spill has not impacted our beaches. Wind and current conditions are keeping the oil spill away from Florida's coastline. We cannot forecast beyond 3-5 days, but have no reasons to believe we will be adversely affected at this point. We will keep you posted should that change.
Are the beaches open? Can I go swimming?
Yes, our beaches are open and the water is fine. Right now, our beaches and our water are beautiful.

Right now, everything is open, and it's business - and pleasure - as usual. We have not been impacted by the oil spill. We wish we could give you a more definite answer, but the best we can do is update you with what we find out daily.
Will hotels, rental agencies or individual home renters allow me to cancel my room?
You can discuss your contract directly with your business owner. All are welcoming calls and questions and are ready to discuss any of your concerns.
What's being done to contain the spill?
The Deepwater Horizon Response Team (U.S. Coast Guard, Homeland Security, NOAA, BP, Transocean and the Department of the Interior) is working diligently to contain the oil spill. For details, go to www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com .
What's being done as a precaution should the oil spill come our way?
Gulf County has developed an extensive protective plan that will help protect and clean all beaches, bays and interior waterways in the event that oil should sometime come our way. The plan includes multiple levels of hard, soft and absorption boom.
