Wakulla County plans to hold coastal cleanup on Sunday

This came in this morning - thought I'd pass it on.

In order to minimize the effect of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Volunteer Florida is supporting community efforts to clean up debris along the Panhandle this weekend. Keep Wakulla Beautiful, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Wakulla County/UF-IFAS Extension Office, Big Bend COAD, and local volunteers, is organizing an effort to clean up our coastline. It is unknown if we will be impacted by the spill; however, in an effort to lessen potential impacts to our community we will be working with volunteers to remove manmade debris/trash from the Wakulla coastline. Volunteers interested in assisting in the prevention effort are encouraged to rally at the Wakulla County High School located at 3237 Coastal Highway, Crawfordville Florida between the hours of 2PM and 5PM Sunday May 2nd. Volunteers will be given instruction and directed to clean-up locations at the rally point. Volunteers should wear gloves, closed toed shoes and bring sun screen and bug spray. Volunteers are asked to concentrate on manmade debris (trash), only natural materials should not be removed. Individuals wishing to support the effort on their own are welcome to clean up the public beaches anytime. Homeowners are also encouraged to clean coastal property this weekend. For more information on other opportunities throughout the region please you may go to http://www.volunteerfloridadisaster.org/ as information is available about volunteer efforts, it will be made available on this site.
