Your hair is needed to fight the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico!

The next time you get your hair cut make sure to ask your barber if your hair is being used to help fight the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

It turns out that human and animal hair are good at absorbing oil and are being collected from around the country for use in oil booms.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation is encouraging licensed barbers, cosmetologists and veterinarians to send hair trimmings to a company called Matter of Trust in order to convert them to oil-absorbing booms. Matter of Trust is an organization based in San Francisco that has been producing booms from hair and nylons to absorb oil for more than a decade.

All barbers, cosmetologists and veterinarians should visit www.MatterofTrust.org and register to donate hair.

That website will also provide other important information, such as shipping addresses in the area.
