Getting out of the county boat ramp on St. George Island should be much easier in the next few months.
The Department of Transportation has awarded the bid to realign the exit road from the boat ramp to the CW Roberts Company out of Hosford.
Currently it is illegal to make a right turn out of the boat ramp which means people heading toward the mainland first have to drive onto St. George Island and then turn around.
Many people still make the right turn, but to do that they generally have to pull in to the opposing lane which increases the chances of a accident.
CW Roberts will realign the road to make the right turn safer.
Work should begin in the next few months; the Florida Department of Transportation is expected to issue the notice to proceed within the next 60 days.
