Franklin County Commissioners will hold a workshop next Monday to speak with two companies interested in managing the local ambulance service.
Commissioners received bids last week from Lifeguard Ambulance Service of Florida and EM Priority, both of which would like to take over ambulance operations.
Both companies say they would require a subsidy from Franklin County to take over operations, Lifeguard said it would require 525 thousand dollars in the first year but would work toward requiring a zero subsidy by 2020.
EM Priority said its subsidy would range from 300 thousand to 645 thousand dollars depending on the level of service the county would like to have.
Commissioners will hold a workshop next Monday at 10AM to meet with the companies in the third floor courtroom at the Franklin County courthouse in Apalachicola.
The ambulance service is currently operated through Weems Memorial Hospital; it has two ambulances on call 24 hours a day with a third that operates during the summer months from St. George Island.
