Florida Fishermen still need a license to catch saltwater fish from the shoreline, but as of this month that license is free.
The on-shore fishing license requirement took effect last year to prevent a more-costly federal registration fee from taking effect in Florida
The license initially cost 9 dollars – the Florida Legislature repealed license fee during the past session though the license requirement remains in effect.
Only Florida residents qualify for the no-cost shoreline license – out of state fishermen still have to pay for it.
The license does not cover fishing from a boat or from land or a structure accessible only by boat which requires a regular saltwater fishing license.
