USDA to hold check presentation with Apalachicola Riverkeeper today

The USDA will hold a special check presentation ceremony this afternoon in Apalachicola to present a 50 thousand dollar grant to the Apalachicola Riverkeeper.
The money is a USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant that will help fund the Riverkeepers work in the ongoing tri-state water war.
Through the grant, the Apalachicola Riverkeeper will undertake a comparative modeling program of the river system to determine how the US Army Corps of Engineers can better manage releases from the federal reservoirs on the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River System to insure that the river system remains healthy.
The Riverkeeper will use the money to hire modeler Steve Leitman as a Technical Assistant to work with the Tri-Rivers Waterway Development Association on the “Navigational/Environmental Flow Modeling Project”.
The ceremonial check presentation will take place today at 3:30 at Riverfront Park in Apalachicola.
It is open to the public.
