Water Street Festival of ice kicks off this Saturday

The city of Apalachicola will kick off its month long celebration of the invention of the ice making machine on Saturday.

The Water Street Festival of ice will bring events throughout the month of August to honor Dr. John Gorrie and his ice machine which led to the creation of the modern day air-conditioners.

On Saturday there will be an Ice-cream Churn-off as well as an ice cream Tasting and the “Ice, Ice Baby” retro-dance party.

All of the events will happen at Gardens, a business at 268 Water Street in Apalachicola beginning at 3 PM.

Other events through the month include Snow cones and a concert on August 14th, Cool Jazz on a Hot Summer Night on August 21st, and the Gorrie Square tribute to the Iceman on August the 28th.
