The Apalachicola Riverkeeper was one of 5 groups to receive money from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation this week.
The Community Foundation of North Florida announced the award of $120,000 in grants to be shared by 5 local projects.
The Apalachicola Riverkeeper was awarded $25,000 for the Oil Spill Recovery Video Monitoring Project.
The Project's goal is to collect information about current, pre- and post-oil spill overview of the condition of the Apalachicola River and Bay area.
The project includes training and equipping community volunteers with hand-held video cams and GPS units to monitor and video important, recognized areas in Franklin County.
Other groups receiving funding include the Council on Culture & Arts, the North Florida Economic Development Council, The OASIS Center for Women and Girls and the Tallahassee Community College Foundation.
The Knight Fund was created in 2004 to improve the quality of life in the U.S. communities where the Knight Brothers owned newspapers.
