Attorney General urges caution if accepting final payment from BP

Florida’s Attorney General is warning Floridians to be cautious if they are thinking about accepting a quick payment or final payment from BP.
Last week the Gulf Coast Claims Facility provided three new options for people making claims against BP – a quick pay option, a final payment option or a quarterly payment option.
People who take either the quick payment or the final payment options have to sign
an extensive release that would bar them from suing BP in the future.
Attorney General McCollum said that anyone considering a final payment option should proceed with caution and consult with an attorney before signing any release.
People don’t have to take any of the options.
If you are making claims against BP you can continue to file interim claims to recover your currently known damages without having to sign any release.
