Cold temperatures could lead to busy wildfire season

A cold front that has been moving through the state is increasing the potential for wildfires.
Low temperatures create dead and dry vegetation that feeds wildfires.
Florida was also spared any major storms through the hurricane season which also left Florida drier than normal.
The Division of Forestry is also expecting wildfire activity during 2011 to be higher than normal due to the strong La Nina weather conditions currently in place.
Similar conditions in the past have been associated with Florida's five most active wildfire years.
The state is reminding people to take precautions to protect their homes - Roofs and gutters should be free of all vegetation and debris.
Keep the area around your home clean and landscape the area using plants with low flammability and within 30 feet of the house keep the area mowed and watered and keep all debris and brush picked up.
