Franklin County signs off on energy conservation grant

Franklin County commissioners this week signed off on a half million dollar energy conservation grant that will help retrofit the Courthouse  and the Carrabelle Municipal Complex to make them more energy efficient.
An energy audit of the two buildings began this week which should provide a clearer picture of how the money will best be spent – but the county already knows it wants to replace the windows in the courthouse.
The City of Carrabelle will decide what to do after the audit is complete.
250 thousand dollars will also be used to install solar panels on the courthouse annex which will save an estimated 23 thousand dollars a year in electricity costs.
The federal stimulus  money was provided to the county through the Florida governor’s office.
