Steve Southerland, who was recently elected to replace Alana Boyd in Congress, has announced his committee assignments for the coming session.
Southerland said he will serve on the House Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Natural Resources.
The agriculture committee oversees issues ranging from renewable energy and rural development to agricultural research and development and bioterrorism.
The committee on Natural Resources also covers a wide variety of issues including Fisheries and wildlife, Forest reserves and national parks, International fishing agreements, Mineral resources on public lands and relations of the United States with Native Americans and Native American tribes.
Congressman Southerland said he was pleased with his assignments as both committees address critical issues for Florida and Congressional District Two.
He added that he will work to achieve a common sense level of oversight and ensure that the government does not impede the progress of the free market machine.
