The number of reported hate crimes falls to lowest on record


The number of reported hate crimes in Florida last year fell to its lowest point in 20 years.
148 hate crimes were reported by law enforcement agencies last year.
The average over the years since 1990 is about 260 reported hate crimes a year.
In 54 percent of the cases, the crime was motivated by race.
Sexual orientation was cited in 22 percent of the cases, Religion was cited in 14 percent.
There were no hate crimes reported in Franklin or Gulf counties last year.
Wakulla County reported five hate crimes last year, all were racially motivated.
