Highway Patrol reports fewer traffic fatalities this Thanksgiving holiday

23 people were killed on Florida roads over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the number of people killed in traffic accidents was down substantially from 2009 when 36 people died.
The Highway Patrol said their increased enforcement effort over the holiday as well as public education campaigns throughout the year account for much of the decline in traffic fatalities.
Over the 5 day Thanksgiving holiday the Highway Patrol made 121 arrests for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, issued more than 12,000 traffic citations and wrote nearly 5,000 speeding tickets and 1,400 more for failure to buckle up.
