Power bills could be lower beginning next year
Progress Energy customers should see some lower monthly bills beginning next month.
An average residential customer using 1000 kw hours of electricity a month would save nearly 90 dollars on their electric bills over the year.
The average residential bill will drop to $119.34, beginning with January 2011 billing, compared to $126.90 currently.
Commercial and industrial customers will also see decreases of up to 6 percent.
The lower costs are because Progress Energy is paying less for the fuel it uses to generate electricity and for what it pays to purchase power from other companies.
Progress Energy said the cost of fuel and purchased power is down due to the company’s diligent cost management strategies and lower commodity prices for coal and natural gas, the company’s two largest fuel sources.
