Georgia counties hit hard by drought

The southeast is going through another period of drought so don’t be surprised if the battle over water from the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee Flint river system heats back up.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 151 counties in Georgia as natural disaster areas due to losses caused by drought and excessive heat that began July 1st and continues even today.
Farmers in 11 Alabama counties and 9 counties in Florida are also eligible for the assistance because they are contiguous.
Because of the natural disaster designation, farmers in the designated counties are eligible for low interest emergency loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.
Farmers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the declaration to apply for the loans to help cover part of their actual losses.
A full list of all of the counties designated as natural disaster areas is available at the news page at oysterradio.com.
