White Christmas for Part of Dixie
State College, Pa. -- 23 December 2010 -- AccuWeather.com reports the same storm that brought yards of snow to California over the past week will visit the interior South with snowfall ranging from a few flakes to several inches.
Nashville, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Raleigh and Richmond can expect a very generous amount of snow from Mother Nature.
Even Birmingham and Atlanta have a shot at a coating of snow.
The storm will start as rain in much of this area.
Some of this snow will melt as it falls on roadways, but icy areas can form during the nighttime and early morning hours. Especially watch those bridges and overpasses for slippery conditions.
However, in areas east of the Appalachians in the South, you will have to allow the snow to fall after Christmas morning.
Unfortunately, rain will fall instead of snow for the Deep South for you white Christmas lovers. However, rain will be a blessing over snow for those who have to travel.
The storm set to bring the snow to part of the South will roll northeastward and will likely bring the coastal mid-Atlantic a substantial snowfall on Sunday and could bring part of New England a major blizzard on Monday.
As the storm strengthens upon reaching the waters of the mid-Atlantic and New England, northerly winds will crank up and cold air will plunge southward.
High pressure building in after the storm may bring the clear skies, light northerly winds and cold enough conditions for frost problems as far south as the citrus areas of central Florida during the early and middle part of next week.
