EOC continues work to expand cell phone service in Franklin County

Emergency Management officials are working on a plan they hope will expand cell phone service to heavily wooded areas of the area.

Franklin County undertook the project last October after concerns were raised over the lack of cell phone service on Highway 65 and County Road 67.

Commissioners said cell phone service is needed for the large number of people who hunt and fish in the state forest as well as for those who travel those roads.

The Emergency Management Office said it is waiting for a resolution of support from Wakulla County and will then petition the state Division of Emergency Management in Tallahassee to expand cellular phone service in areas historically without it including portions of Franklin, Liberty and Wakulla counties.
