Florida counties declared natural disaster areas because of freezes and drought

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 34 counties in Florida as primary natural disaster areas because of the frosts and freezes during this winter season as well as the drought across the Southeast over the last six months.
28 more counties are listed as contiguous natural disaster areas.
Most of the counties designated because of the freezing temperatures are in South Florida while those impacted by the drought are in the northern portion of the state.
Franklin, Gulf and Liberty counties are all listed as contiguous natural disaster areas due to drought.
Because of the designation farming operations in the impacted counties can be considered for assistance from the USDA Farm Service Agency.
Assistance can include emergency loans and Supplemental Revenue Assistance.
Farmers in these designated counties have eight months to apply for emergency loan assistance.
You can get more information about the program from the Farm Service Agency office in Blountstown at 674-8388.
