If you’re an avid speckled trout fisherman, February is a key month to remember.
Speckled trout fishing is closed in February in Northwest Florida waters from the Pasco-Pinellas county line to the Florida-Alabama border.
The closure also extends from the Flagler/Volusia county line to the Florida-Georgia border in the Atlantic.
All speckled trout caught during the month have to be immediately re-released.
The month-long closure takes place every year as a way to protect the speckled trout population from overfishing.
