Franklin County hires firm to modernize courthouse elevator

County commissioners have agreed to bring in a company to upgrade the elevator at the county courthouse.

The county agreed to hire a company called Mowery Elevator to bring the elevator back up to code.

According to county planner Alan Pierce, the elevator has not been modernized since it was installed nearly 30 years ago.

It has already caught fire once and has been cited by inspectors for numerous code violations.

It will cost about 55 thousand dollars to bring the elevator up to code.

Commissioner Pinki Jackel felt the board should take bids from other companies before accepting the Mowery’s price, but the other board members felt the bid process would take too much time and the elevator needs top be fixed as soon as possible.
