Red Cross makes call for more donations

The American Red Cross is putting out a call for blood donors.

The Severe winter weather across the eastern half of the United States has caused the cancellation of more than 14,000 blood and platelet donation drives and that’s beginning to have an impact.

The Red Cross is asking all eligible donors in unaffected areas like ours to make a blood or platelet donation as soon as possible.

You can even make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org.

Donations will help replenish the Red Cross blood supply to ensure that blood products are readily available for patients with serious medical needs.

All blood types are needed, especially type O negative.

To be eligible to donate blood you need to be at least 17 years old, (or 16 with parent approval), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health.
