Over 70 people turned out Friday to tour the new Weems medical center east in Carrabelle.
Construction on the medical Clinic was completed early this month – the center is already seeing patients.
The 1.3 million dollar medical center will expand health services to the eastern end of the county and will provide space for some specialty services too.
Dr. Caitlin is already providing general family medicine at the site, and in the near future there will be radiology, lab services and urgent care, and even rotating specialties like dermatology and ob-gyn.
The clinic is the first major project funded through a local 1 cent sales tax to enhance local health care.
The next project will be a new hospital in Apalachicola.
County commission chairman Noah Lockley spoke at the grand opening and said it’s amazing what a penny can do.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish called the opening of the clinic a “momentous occasion for the people of Franklin County.”
If you would like to see the clinic for yourself or make an appointment to see Dr. Caitlin – Weems medical Center East is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 5 with plans to extend the hours in the near future.
