Future of local state parks in question

A number of state parks in our area including two in Apalachicola are on a list of 53 statewide that could be closed if the Department of Environmental Protection is ordered to reduce its budget by 15 percent.
All state agencies were asked to come up with budget cut proposals for the upcoming fiscal year as state legislators get ready for their legislative session.
Florida is facing a potential budget shortfall of $3.2 billion dollars.
Closing these parks would save the state $6.5 million per year.
Some of the state parks that could face closure include the John Gorrie Museum State Park and the Orman House Historic State Park in Apalachicola, the Constitution Convention Museum State Park in Port St. Joe and the Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park and San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park both in Wakulla County.
Those parks were chosen because they have a low number of visitors and are only open during daylight hours.
