Forget the bag limit and face a fine

Bay scallop season is open for recreational harvesters through mid-September and if you decide to take part remember there is a daily bag limit.

Recreational harvesters are limited to 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person.

And if you try get away with more than that you might have to deal with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as one harvester discovered last week.

Officer Hal Webb stopped a vessel in St. Joe Bay to conduct an inspection and discovered that the four people on board had gone over their limit.

He found scallops in two different places on the boat and determined after counting the scallops that the individuals were four gallons over the daily bag limit for the four people on board.

The captain of the boat was issued a citation.
