The American Red Cross is putting out a call for blood donors.
Summers are tough for blood centers because donors are busy or traveling and school is out of session.
This year has been especially bad.
Donations in May and June dropped to the lowest levels the Red Cross has seen during this timeframe in over a dozen years.
Demand for blood remains steady which is why the Red Cross needs donors.
All types are needed, but especially O negative, which can be used to treat any patient.
Donations will help replenish the Red Cross blood supply to ensure that blood products are readily available for patients with serious medical needs.
To be eligible to donate blood you need to be at least 17 years old, (or 16 with parent approval), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health.
There will be a blood drive in Franklin County next week for people who can give – though it is not a red cross drive.
It will be held at the Chapman building in Apalachicola on July the 19th from 10 until 6.
