Volunteer Shorebird Steward Program needs volunteers

The Audubon of Florida Volunteer Shorebird Steward Program is looking for volunteers.
The group is looking for people who would be willing to spend a few hours or more on the beach during the nesting season to protect the birds from disturbance and to educate the public about the birds.

Some volunteers are already working, but the group is desperately in need of more people to finish out this breeding season.

All training on how to be a steward will be provided free of charge.
There will be a giant on-the-job training weekend on July 30th and 31st at the St. Joe State Buffer Preserve
The group has set aside 20 free beds for volunteers at the Buffer Preserve and is arranging for some free camping at St. George Island and St. Joe Peninsula State Parks for those that prefer to camp.
Reservations are required whether you plan to stay at the Buffer Preserve, camp at one of the parks or just come out for a few hours.
To get involved with the Audubon of Florida Volunteer Shorebird Steward Program contact Alan Knothe at 850-200-6279 or e-mail him at aknothe@audubon.org.
