Area counties declared natural disaster area because of scorching heat

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 27 Florida counties as primary natural disaster areas because of the excessive heat we have felt this summer.
The designation affects primarily farmers and ranchers who have lost crops because of the heat.
Area counties that fall under the designation include Liberty, Gulf, and Wakulla.
Farmers and ranchers in Franklin County also qualify for natural disaster assistance we are contiguous to affected counties.

Farmers and ranchers are eligible for low interest emergency loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

Farmers have eight months to apply for the loans.

USDA has also made other programs available, including the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program, the Emergency Conservation Program, Federal Crop Insurance; and the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program.
