The Franklin County Humane Society is looking for people who need a good dog or two and don’t care about the dog’s color.
The local shelter has too many black dogs – its problem that is widespread enough in shelters around the country that it has its own name - “black dog syndrome”.
It turns out black dogs are the most overlooked dogs in a shelter - They are usually the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized.
Some say it’s due to folklore because many scary stories include a black dog. Others think black dogs are mean and some just consider them ordinary.
The Humane Society has many black dogs right now, most of them are Lab or Lab mixes.
The Humane Society said they would love to show people how their nice black dogs are – so if you would like to see some of the many they have to offer stop by the adoption center on Highway 65.
You can also see many of the animals on-line at forgottenpets.org.
