Hundreds of people came out
Saturday to take part in the 2nd annual Oyster Cook-off to raise money for the
Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department.
Warm weather meant people could sit outside, listen to live
music, and enjoy the aromas of the various oyster dishes.
12 teams took part in the cook-off, and dishes varied from
oyster chowder and casserole to a number of "baked in the half-shell"
dishes.
No two were the same.
The four judges included local realtor and television chef
Jerry Thompson, Paul Davis from the Florida Bureau of seafood and aquaculture
marketing, Southern Living travel editor Alex Crevar, and me.
The day went to Jeff Ilardi of Eastpoint with his tupelo
honey and jalapeno oysters.
Second place went to the Eastpoint fire department, third
place to Franklin County undersheriff Willy Norred.
The event should have earning numbers later this week.
