The
St.
George
Island
Volunteer Fire Department is getting ready for its 30th annual
charity chili cook-off and auction.
The event, which is held on the first
Saturday in March, brings in an estimated 8000 people and raises well over 100
thousand dollars every year which makes up nearly half of the fire departments
annual budget.
The chili cook-off got permission last
week to close the roads around the festival grounds.
That includes chili boulevard as well as
east Gulf beach Drive from Franklin
Boulevard to 1st
street.
The cook-off will continue to charge the 5
dollar entry fee this year.
People will also not be allowed to bring
in coolers or alcohol again this year but will still be able to buy beer at the
park.
The fire department is looking for items
to auction off this year.
If you have something you would like to
donate to the cause call Jay Abbott at 653-6462.
