Six residents escape Panacea house fire

An older two story wood frame home on Lake Avenue in Panacea was destroyed by an 11:05 p.m. fire Sunday, Feb. 12, according to Sheriff Donnie Crum.
Randall Crum was at the residence with his sister, Valerie Bradford, his son Dillon Crum, and three juvenile children, ages, 10, 5 and 1, when fire broke out from a wood burning stove. Flames emitted from the stove into the ceiling.

Randall and Dillon Crum attempted to put out the fire while Bradford escaped the residence with the three juveniles. Wakulla County Firefighters arrived on the scene and began fighting the blaze. Deputy Cole Wells arrived on the scene and observed fire coming from the roof of the residence.
The home was owned by Fred Bradford, Sr. who did not have insurance on the residence. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the victims. There were no injuries, but the home was destroyed in the blaze. It was valued at $50,000.
Firefighters also returned at 3:36 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 to knock down hot spots from the original fire. Responding to the blaze was Wakulla County and volunteer firefighters from Apalachee Bay, Crawfordville, Wakulla Station, Ochlockonee Bay, Panacea and Sopchoppy.
