The Dixie
Youth
State
softball Tournament is coming back to Franklin
County.
The
tournament was held in Franklin
County
last year and was a huge success, bringing 33 teams from around the state to
play at the Will Kendrick Sports Complex.
And
each team brought plenty of family, friends and coaches.
County
Commissioners
say the tournament is a big boost to the local economy and they plan on making
this year’s tournament a big event.
Commissioners
said that because the tournament puts “heads in beds:” they will expect the
Tourist Development Council to fund much of the cost.
Last
year the county and the local tourist development council spent about 7000
dollars on the event – that was mostly for the pre-tournament banquet.
Commissioner
Cheryl Sanders said she will take a proposal to the TDC in the next few weeks.
The
board also said the tournament will be a good way to provide overtime for road
camp and solid waste employees and approved a motion that workers from both
departments will be eligible to work at the tournament for a little extra
money.
The
board said they will figure out the details of how to cover the overtime costs
later.
