Operation emerald Warrior starts in Franklin County today

If you see more helicopters than usual or hear the sounds of battle in the distance, you’re likely hearing a major military training exercise that’s going on across the southeast.
Operation Emerald Warrior will kick off in Franklin County today – the operations is scheduled to run through March the 12th.
Operation Emerald Warrior is an Air Force Special Operations Command designed to train forces with lessons learned from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
The operation will include ground and air mobility operations including the use of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft as well as live and simulated munitions training.
The groups do not intend to go on private property and have been coordinating with local low enforcement and any property owners that might be affected by the operation.
The military says the impact on civilians should be minimal – but that doesn’t mean it won’t be loud at times.
The exercise will also include parts of Liberty and Calhoun counties.
