Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Cost Share Program now seeking applicants

If you own at least 10 acres of forest land you may be eligible for federal grant money to protect your trees from the southern pine beetle.
Periodic southern pine beetle outbreaks in Florida have resulted in millions of cubic feet of pine timber killed on thousands of acres.
The Florida Division of Forestry can provide up to 10 thousand dollars to help cover the costs of protecting private non-industrial forest land through the Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Cost Share Program.
The program will help pay for a first pulpwood thinning and pre-commercial thinning, prescribed burning, mechanical underbrush treatments and planting longleaf pine.
The program is limited to 44 northern Florida counties located within the range of the southern pine beetle which includes Franklin, Gulf and Wakulla Counties.
Applications will be available through June the 11th from the local Division of Forestry office or the Florida Division of Forestry website at floridaforestservice.com
